Shipments from and to Beirut
Dear Valued Customer,
On August 4, 2020 a devastating explosion occurred at the port of Beirut with a significant impact on the entire port area. Hamburg Süd's operations are also affected by the current situation and the destruction. Fortunately, our staff and colleagues are unharmed, but the Hamburg Süd representation office of Messrs. Seatrans is currently not available.
Regarding your shipments from/to Beirut, we can currently provide you with the following information.
- The Port of Beirut remains closed until further notice and is controlled by the Lebanese army. Hamburg Süd's staff has no access to the premises. However, we are at your disposal at any time, even mobile.
- According to our information the full container yard is not affected by the massive destruction and the containers are in good condition. However, until further notice there is no possibility to transport containers in or out of the port area. This applies to both empty and full containers.
- The power supply in the port is currently interrupted, i.e. continuous power supply for the reefer containers cannot be guaranteed at present.
- Planned approaches to the port of Beirut will be rescheduled. We are currently clarifying the alternatives and you will receive updates on the new schedules as soon as possible.
Please be assured that we will do everything possible to get a further overview of the whole situation of your containers and your cargo as soon as possible and will provide you with further updates.
Thank you for your understanding. If you have any question, please feel free to
