Hamburg Süd implements Port Congestion Surcharge
September 24,2020
Waiting times of up to 19 days at Port of Sydney, Australia
Dear Customer,
Hamburg Sud wishes to advise our customers the heavy congestion at Sydney terminals and container depots continues to cause significant constraints on supply chains. We are experiencing significant vessel delays with waiting times of up to 19 days due to a combination of factors, including industrial action.
Over past weeks we have done our outmost to deliver your cargo to Sydney whilst managing the current situation as best as possible. However due to the requirement for multiple Sydney omissions to protect vessel schedules and berthing windows we are experiencing a significant increase in overall operational costs.
To enable us to continue to connect your supply chain to and from Sydney, Hamburg Sud wishes to advise our customers we will be introducing a Port Congestion Surcharge of USD 350 per TEU (both standard and reefer containers) for all containers arriving and departing Sydney.
The Sydney Port Congestion Surcharge will be applied as follows:
Sydney to/from World (excluding USA trades)
· Export cargo for all vessels departing Sydney on or after 1st October
· Import cargo for all vessels arriving Sydney on or after 1st October
Sydney to/from USA
· Export cargo received in Sydney on or after 24th October
· Import cargo received at origin on or after 24th October
We appreciate congestion levels in Sydney are placing significant constraints on your supply chain. We remain committed to continue to connect your cargo to and from Sydney and we will continue to monitor the situation and keep you informed of the latest developments.
